Presidents Welcome

I would like to take this opportunity to invite all Masters Squash players from around Australia to come to Canberra for the 2024 Australian Masters Squash Association Championships.

With the Individuals Event set for 2 – 6 September 2024 and the Teams Event for 9 – 13 September, the Nation’s capital will be turning on brilliant spring weather.

The ACT Masters organising committee has worked hard to secure accommodation deals, a host of supporting sponsors, some amazing venues for functions and a suggested list of ‘off court’ activities for people to undertake at their leisure.

If you are planning to come to Canberra, consider staying an extra week or two to get a taste of the fantastic attractions and experiences that the region has to offer. From cool climate wineries on the doorstep, the beautiful displays of Floriade, the breathtaking Snowy Mountains, the pristine South Coast beaches, four wheel driving in the Brindabella National Park, and everything in between.

You are spoilt for choice!

President, ACT Masters Squash

What is Master’s Squash and the National Championships?

Master’s squash is for people over the age of 35 years.

Each year, Masters squash players from all over Australia come together for the National Championships.  The event is a prominent fixture in the Australian squash calendar. This year the ACT is hosting the Championships and they will be held in Canberra. The championships attract some of the best Masters squash players in Australia, ensuring high-level competition and exciting matches for spectators.

The championships are divided into two segments: Individuals Week and Teams Week.

Individuals Week offers a vibrant mix of competitive play and camaraderie. Players compete individually, focusing on personal performance and skill. Matches are gender based, by age group (5 year brackets) and also based on skill divisions; this ensures a balanced and inclusive competition. Individuals Week is for seasoned veterans and newer players alike. Players are guaranteed at least 3 matches over the course of the week, with many having 4 or even 5 matches. The finals culminate in national titles for the best performers in each age group and division.

Teams Week offers players an exciting and collaborative experience, centered around team dynamics, strategic play and collective effort. It is State against State! Players can expect a structured and energetic week. Teams are organised according to skill division. You will play in uniform in a mixed team of four with 3 other players from your State of a similar standard. Each day you will play another team in the same division; with a guaranteed five days of play. The collective achievement results in the awarding of national titles to the best teams in each division.

Off court

Off-court activities and amenities are also a highlight, offering relaxation and entertainment to complement the competition. The Championships foster a strong community spirit, with social gatherings, dinners, and opportunities to network with fellow players from across the country.

Overall, Individuals Week and Teams Week at the Australian Masters Squash National Championships promises you a memorable experience, blending enjoyable, competitive squash with social interaction.
